GOALS:
• To recognize the importance of maintaining good health and a sound body through physical fitness and good nutrition.
• Have a knowledge of an appreciation for a variety of physical activities.
• Have opportunities to develop motor and kinesthetic skills by participation in personal fitness activities and team sports.
• Demonstrate Good Sportsmanship.
• Lastly, to recognize the talents of others as gifts to the school community.
GRADING: 10 point scale: Your overall grade on your report card will be based off of the average of points you obtain on a class by class basis.
ATTENDANCE: 5 points: Classroom attendance does not mean whether you show up to class or not, but it means that you are present in the classroom, on time to class, and are fully present during class. You are expected to use the restroom before class begins. As soon as the first exercise leader begins their stretches and you are not present, you will receive 0 attendance points for the day. 2 points can be earned for non-attendance by completing an assignment due upon your return.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION UNIFORM: 1 point. Correct physical education attire for hair (girls), socks, shoes, shorts and shirts is as follows:
Failure to wear your physical education uniform during class will result in a grade of 5 for physical education uniform points for the day. Students not dressed in correct attire will not be permitted to participate in class and will receive an overall grade of 5 for the day. Girls in school dress uniforms will not participate in class and will receive an overall grade of 5 for the day. The use of sweaters or sweatshirts are not allowed in class and the use of them are at Coach’s discretion.
HAIR: Girls must have their hair tied back for class.
SOCKS: White crew or knee-high socks.
SHOES: Athletic shoes should be leather or leather/mesh. NO CANVAS or LEATHER SKATE STYLE shoes are allowed. NO VANS, CONVERSE, KEDS or OXFORD style shoes are allowed for physical education class or after school sports. All athletic shoes must have shoe laces that tie in a bow with the bow visible on the outside of the shoes. NO slip-ons with elastic laces, lock laces and/or Velcro are allowed.
SHORTS: Dennis uniform Shorts are required during physical education class. Shorts must be above the knee for both boys and girls. Shorts that are below the knee are not permitted. Pants are not allowed during class except for free dress.
SHIRTS: Dennis Uniform Red, White, or Blue St Rose Lima polo shirts are to be worn and tucked in at all times during physical education class.
DEVELOPMENT OF SKILLS AND CONCEPT: 2 points: Proper skill techniques and understanding the concept of the game including the rules, positions and strategy of the activity or game.
EFFORT, PARTICIPATION, FITNESSS, and SPORTSMANSHIP: 2 points: Sportsmanship is determined by how you interact with your classmates, whether they are on your team or opposing team. Remarks such as good job, a high five, or fist bump are acceptable. Taunting or bullying opposing players during physical education are not tolerated a St. Rose of Lima. Taunting or bulling your fellow classmates during physical education will result in an automatic 9 points for the day and be reported to Mr. Turskey, your classroom teacher and parents. Your effort and participation is graded off giving your best individual effort throughout class. For example, not fully stretching, talking during instruction or walking when jogging lap(s) are all considered a lack of effort and will be graded accordingly.
EXCUSED NOTE: If you are unable to participate in class due to injury or illness, a note is mandatory to be excused from physical education class. When your doctor does not allow you to participate in physical activity, your doctor must clear you in order for you to return and participate in physical activity.
